The softshell turtle can be found in bodies of fresh water such as ponds, lakes, rivers and streams. Softshell turtles feed on a variety of items. They eat invertebrates (crayfish, insects) fish, plant material and mussels. Female Softshell turtles begin mating at 8 to 10 years and can lay between 9 and 38 eggs.  The female turtle can live up to 50 years of age.
